Kudo Fighting Rules

How to score points

Ippon (8 points) – Absolute Victory:

A fighter may accumulate 8 points throughout a match to win or score 8 points in an instant via:

  • Legal submission: the opponent concedes defeat verbally and/or by tapping out

  • Knockout: the opponent is rendered unconscious via either a legal strike or strangulation

  • Technical knockout (TKO): the opponent is knocked down by a strike or takes a knee, and does not rise for 4 seconds.

  • Technical knockout (TKO): the opponent does not demonstrate intelligent defence for 6 seconds while under sustained attack.

Wazari (4 points):

A fighter can achieve 4 points in an instant via:

  • Technical knock-down: the opponent is dropped by a strike or takes a knee, and does not rise for 2–3 seconds.
  • Undefended strikes: the opponent does not demonstrate intelligent defence for 4 seconds while under sustained attack.
Yuko (2 points):

A fighter can achieve 2 points in an instant via:

  • Technical knock-down: the opponent is knocked down by a strike or takes a knee, and does not rise for less than 2 seconds.
  • Undefended strikes: the opponent does not demonstrate intelligent defence for 2 seconds while under sustained attack.
Koka (1 Point):

A fighter will be awarded 1 point for each of the following:

  • A strong strike while standing that shows visible reaction indicating damage to the body or legs, or the potential for damage when the helmet is struck
  • A clean throw (at or above hip level) where the opponent hits ground
  • Immediately following a throw, either (1) an undefended stomp towards the head (making no contact); or (2) undefended punches towards the head (making no contact)
  • Gaining top position on the ground via either mount or knee-ride and delivering 4 undefended punches towards the head (making no contact)
